Which lasers are used in tattoo removal?
There have been Q-switched lasers used in tattoo removal for the last 15-20 years. These Qswitched lasers make pulses at the nanosecond level, that is, in a billionth of a second. They are insufficient to see small paint spots. Since they do not see these dye particles, they may not be able to completely eliminate the tattoo even if applied in 15-20 sessions on the dye particles that are reduced with sessions. With the picosecond lasers that send their energy in a trillionth of a second in the latest technology, tattoos are erased faster, stronger and without risk.
What is the difference of Picosecond laser from Q Switched Laser? How many sessions are applied?
Because they make very fast pulses, they can split the tattoo ink particles into much smaller pieces compared to q-switched lasers, and these small particles are expelled from the body very quickly with the body’s own natural cells. Due to its fast and effective sessions, it has reduced the number of sessions by 60% compared to other q switched lasers. Tattoos that are normally removed in 10-12 sessions can be removed in 4-6 sessions. We know that normal sessions are held at 4-6 week intervals. In other words, while a tattoo removal process takes 2- 2.5 years, this period has decreased to 4-6 months with picosecond lasers.
Can any color tattoo be removed with Picosecond Laser?
There is three wavelength generation in the picosecond laser. Existing q switched lasers only have a wavelength of 1064 mm and are effective in black tattoos. It may fail to erase colored tattoos. In addition to the 1064 wavelength in the picosecond laser, the 755 nm head that sees the tattoos in black, dark blue, blue and green colors, and the third one, the 532 nm head, is effective on yellow, orange, red and purple colors. The only laser system that can remove yellow tattoo is picosecond lasers. Because the pigment particles of yellow paint are smaller than other color pigments. Because the size is small, Q-switched lasers do not see this color. This is another success of the picosecond laser.
Can Picosecond lasers be used in permanent make-up removal?
In addition to tattoo removal, permanent make-up tattoos can be removed comfortably and with less number of sessions with Picosecond laser.
Is the procedure painful?
Before the procedure, the area to be applied is anesthetized with local anesthesia. Tattoo removal treatment with picosecond laser is more painless than other q switched laser. The reason for this is because of the very very short pulse duration, the Picosecond laser has a photomechanical effect. In Q-switched lasers, the light energy absorbed by the tattoo inks causes more pain as it gives heat energy to the environment.
Is picosecond laser risky?
Since there is no heat effect, the risk of burns and marks is lower than q switched laser. Since effective results are obtained with low energy doses, it is also effective on the scars formed while tattoo.
